Early Years at our school

Welcome to The Martin Wilson School Nursery. In our Nursery we provide an environment for our children to make them feel safe, loved, cared for and excited about their surroundings. We have skilled Early Years Practitioners who enable our children to grow, develop and learn new skills and knowledge within a nurturing atmosphere, where all children are respected for their individuality. We feel privileged to be sharing the children’s experiences and aim to give a positive start to their educational journey that will allow them to be excited each step they take.

Children learn best when they are actively engaged in their environment and this develops independence and a drive to discover and explore. In our Nursery, we have created an enabling environment which encourages the children to have confidence and strength in their own abilities, whilst being inclusive and suited to individual needs. Children are encouraged to gain independence with self-care and to develop a sense of community.

Children access a wide variety of activities from stimulating, ever changing tuff spots, messy play, construction corners, water play, sand play to relaxation areas and quiet corners. All activities are provided both indoors and outdoors. In our secure outdoor area, we have covered areas that can be accessed whatever the weather, green spaces and a wide variety of provision such as bikes, pushchairs, games resources and a muddy kitchen. We cover all areas of learning through the EYFS Development Matters Framework, so the children have a varied and rich experience during their time with us. We plan our themes around books and stories and we always have a focus book that stimulates our adult led activities and provision.

We use ‘Evidence Me’ as our assessment tool and send weekly updates of what your child has been doing whilst at Nursery. We encourage Parents and Carers to upload your own photos, so we can share your child’s learning journey.

During the day we also offer healthy snacks and drinks and provide a lunch club with hot meals if requested.

Starting in the EYC

Before your child starts, we will contact you to ask if you would like your child to attend a taster session, so they can meet the other children, staff and familarise themselves with the setting. This will be arranged at your convenience.

Please complete an admission form. This includes all your details including a current phone number so you can be contacted in an emergency and an email address.

We also ask you to let us know of any allergies and medical needs your child may have. You will be asked to provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate for our records.

If applicable, you will need to complete a funding form to allow us permission to claim the funding for your child from the government. There will also be a form which asks you to provide a list of who is allowed to collect your child from Nursery.

It’s very important that we are informed of any changes to any details you provide. Apart from verbal conversations with staff, most information including ‘Evidence Me’ will be sent through email, so please keep checking you’re receiving the emails.

What does my child need to bring?

We ask that you make sure your child brings:

Nappies and wipes (if applicable)

A set of clean clothes, pants etc. As well as toileting accidents, children often get wet/dirty through play activities and may need changing.

Please label all coats and bags.

What we provide

Children will be provided with fruit and water and/or milk throughout the day.

Absences

Please let us know if your child will not be attending as soon as you know. If it is an arranged absence due to holiday etc, this will give us the change to offer the session to someone else. You will not be charged for the absence, however, if a child is repeatedly absent for a certain session/day we reserve the right to make the session available to someone else. We will notify you of this, usually after three absences.

In the case of illness, please inform us.
